Jack of All Trades - Broad Range of Talents

Charity golf organizer
In the more than three decades I've worked in the nonprofit sector and in education, I've done a lot of things.  I spent two years in the saddle with a stable of 20 horses. I ran a summer camp waterfront for two years, taught swimming and handled maintenance and children's programs. I've taught kids from two to 20, started 5 nonprofit/educational organizations from scratch and written millions of dollars in grants.

If something needs done, I figure out how to do it. I've built all kinds of things.  I've been writing a How-To weblog for two years and haven't run out of projects I've actually done yet.  I'm an inveterate problem-solver whether it's a mechanical problem or people troubles. I have two years of graduate study in rehabilitation psychology, a bachelor's degree in communications and extensive marketing, public relations, writing and desktop publish skills.

Teaching sailing to youth group.
I love the outdoors and experienced canoer instructor, amateur astronomer, sailor and diver. I play guitar, banjo and have a keen interest in folk, Western, campfire and gospel music. I'm very good with groups of kids and managing special events.  I have graduate level coursework in leisure and therapeutic recreation studies.

I want to find a place where Sheila and I can work and live and contribute to a worthwhile enterprise and where I can continue writing in my spare time. I'm good with special events and wrote a book on the subject of how to organize a successful charity golf tournament (Going for the Green, Emerson & Church Publishing, Boston 2008).

It would be nice to work with a small resort, a private ranch that caters to guests or a recreational facility that needs an imaginative and dedicated manager to help it grow and prosper.

More Than a Sitter

I don't sit!  Some people do. I couldn't if I wanted to. I've done in home caregiver work, but I prefer being a companion. In my work with seniors,  I not only monitored health, diet, exercise and sleep routines, but I also cooked, cleaned, chauffeured, played games, planned recreational and socialization activities, did shopping, helped answer letters, helped with clothing, makeup and personal care and made sure their personal vehicles were maintained.

I am a retired LVN. I developed an essential tremor in my hands that makes it difficult for me to manage intravenous injections and such. I still now my basic nursing skills, I don't practice in traditional nursing settings anymore.

Anyone walking into a home I care for will know its clean, comfortable and well-maintained.  I do all the things for your home or facility, for your parent or loved one what you would do if you were here.

I believe a clean and cozy environment, good food and stimulating companionship is essential to maintaining health for seniors with age-related disabilities. My references are listed on the sidebar.  If you have questions, please feel free to contact the folks I have worked for in the past as a companion or as director of Generations Together's adult day care program.

We've worked in the nonprofit sector for a long time and are looking for a working retirement as caretakers or property managers someplace nice.  Drop us a line if you need someone nice to take care of and love your place as much as you do.
